Specializing in All Natural Low Fat Longhorn Beef
Broken Pines Farm began in 2014 in association with Come and Go Farm owned by William Hesson III. "Bill" started in the longhorn business in 1996 after 40+ years of dairy farming. I met Bill in 2007 and our combined 60+ year history of dairy farming led us to quickly become friends.
Longhorns intrigued me but the stories of cattle drives and stampedes intimidated me. On my 1st visit to Come and Go, Bill walked across the pasture towards a big steer. The steer put his horn in the ground and flung some dirt, then the other horn. This went on several times, which worried me to death. Much to my dismay, the steer was just putting on a show. Bill knew this steer would do just what he did and got a kick out of people's reaction to it. I knew immediately this was a place I would be spending a lot of time.
My desire to raise longhorn beef began after I bought some from Bill. It was delicious. This led me to learn how much healthier longhorn beef is compared to other breeds. In 2012 Bill decided to stop raising beef. This meant not only that I no longer had a supply of healthy, all natural, antibiotic and hormone free fresh beef, but many other people as well.
I have spent my entire life with cattle and always knew I wanted a farm. It took me several years, but in 2014 I was able to purchase my own farm and BPF began with 2 yearling heifers from the Come and Go herd.
In 2022, BPF embarked on a new venture by partnering with RL Boden & Son, broadening our horizons and stepping into the show arena. We invite you to meet us and our Longhorns at various fairs and shows throughout Maryland and the surrounding areas.

Longhorn History
"Survivors" of the Great American West, the breed is a result of cattle left on the range over the many years of cattle drives and abandoned farms in the Civil War. These cattle had to survive drought and limited food sources which made them the strong breed they are today. Longhorns are resistant to many of the diseases other breeds battle which allows for use of little to no antibiotics through out their entire long life. Longhorns are commonly known to live 20 years or more.
